No. False ego is not the thing behind it. Something else creates false ego. Self-centered interest creates false ego.
So, if that self-centered interest, which is the cause of false ego, is removed, then false ego is also removed. Is that your question? Yes. So, we have to understand that we are constantly in bhakti-yoga, trying to be free from false ego. Does that mean trying to be free from any desire independent of the desire of Guru and Krishna? Yes. That is our struggle.
We don't specifically struggle to keep away from false ego, because false ego is a product of something else. If you don't care for your own desires and your sense of independence, then false ego automatically has to go.
The purity of devotional service is the purity of exclusive pleasure for Guru and Krishna.
The moment any self-interest comes in, it is not really the self; it is the false self.
