Answer
If someone belongs to a family where animal slaughter and meat-eating are traditional, and their parents insist on eating meat or performing animal sacrifice, how can they be convinced that it is sinful?

Answer

This can be a very difficult situation.

It is often not easy to convince people who are deeply attached to meat-eating because of family tradition, or who believe that animal sacrifice brings material benefits, that such activities are sinful.

Rather than trying to argue with them, a more effective approach is to gradually help them become spiritually purified.

Encourage them to chant the Hare Krishna maha-mantra, offer them Krishna prasadam, and, whenever possible, let them hear kirtana or the chanting of the holy names.

As they chant and hear the holy name, their hearts become purified. With spiritual purification, they naturally begin to understand the value of compassion and gradually lose the desire to kill animals, even in the name of tradition or religious rituals.

Therefore, instead of relying solely on philosophical arguments, inspire them to take up devotional practices. Through the purifying influence of the holy name and Krishna prasadam, they will eventually give up animal killing on their own.
