Answer
To understand this correctly, we must first change our vision.
If we look at the world through the lens of materialism, we may conclude that America or other materially prosperous countries are superior because they offer greater material comforts and conveniences.
However, if we learn to see through the lens of Krishna consciousness, we begin to understand reality as Srila Prabhupada presents it.
Material prosperity alone is not the measure of success.
Maya, the illusory energy, makes us believe that this material world is a permanent place meant for enjoyment. This vision is completely mistaken and ultimately very dangerous.
Therefore, to see things in the proper perspective, one must cultivate Krishna consciousness.
This is achieved by practicing spiritual life, studying Srila Prabhupada's books, and hearing the teachings of the scriptures. Through this process, we gradually learn to see reality as it is.
People influenced by the modes of passion and ignorance cannot perceive the truth. They become increasingly convinced that they are simply the material body and that bodily comfort is life's ultimate goal.
This misconception is the root of materialistic thinking.
By practicing bhakti-yoga, one gradually rises to the mode of goodness (sattva-guna), where life becomes regulated according to scriptural principles and Krishna's instructions in the Bhagavad-gita.
As one advances further, one transcends even the mode of goodness and attains the spiritual platform.
Although externally living in this material world, such a person lives in the spiritual world through Krishna consciousness. On that platform there is no material suffering, because one's consciousness is fixed on Krishna.
