Answer
This is a very good question.
Krishna consciousness is fundamental to the overall well-being of every individual, society, and ultimately the entire world.
The reason is that our real identity is spiritual. We are not the material body; we are eternal spirit souls. The root cause of all problems is the misconception, "I am this body."
This false identification is responsible not only for social conflicts but also for material problems such as pollution, environmental degradation, exploitation of nature, climate change, global warming, and the accumulation of massive waste that poses serious health hazards.
According to the scriptures, all these problems ultimately arise from a lack of Krishna consciousness.
Someone may ask, "How can Krishna consciousness solve problems like climate change?"
The answer is that a person who is not Krishna conscious naturally develops a self-centered mentality. Such a person thinks only in terms of bodily identity—"I am this body," and "everything related to this body belongs to me."
From this misconception arise greed, envy, selfishness, exploitation, and the tendency to misuse the resources of nature.
The scriptures explain that all misconceptions originate from this one fundamental misunderstanding.
Krishna consciousness begins with the realization:
"I am not this body; I am an eternal spirit soul."
Furthermore, the living being understands:
I am an eternal part and parcel of Krishna.
Every living being is also part of Krishna.
Krishna is our maintainer.
Krishna is the supreme proprietor.
Krishna is our master.
Krishna is our dearmost friend.
Krishna is the ultimate provider.
With this understanding, selfish exploitation naturally disappears.
In the Bhagavad-gita, Krishna explains that lasting peace can be achieved only when one realizes three truths:
Krishna is the supreme enjoyer.
Krishna is the supreme proprietor.
Krishna is the supreme friend of every living being.
When these truths are understood through Krishna consciousness, one attains lasting peace.
From lasting peace comes genuine happiness.
Therefore, if we truly want to solve humanity's problems at their root—including social, environmental, and ecological problems—we must cultivate Krishna consciousness. It addresses the root cause rather than merely treating the symptoms.
