One reason is that spiritual leadership cannot be expanded in the same way that multinational corporations expand their branches through managerial expertise alone.
If organizations expand rapidly without leaders having a solid spiritual foundation, sincere devotees serving under them may suffer. Such leaders may begin viewing the movement as a material organization and handle Krishna's resources—His wealth, influence, and authority—for personal prestige and self-aggrandizement.
Therefore, great caution is necessary.
Krishna entrusts His devotees with tremendous power. In a city like Bangalore, devotees have been given significant influence, resources, contacts, and financial support. In many respects, Krishna has entrusted His mission with more power than many materialistic organizations possess.
This influence exists because it is Krishna's mission. Just as materialistic people have missions of their own, the disciplic succession (paramparā) also has a divine mission, and carrying out that mission requires money, organization, influence, and many other resources.
With such blessings comes an even greater responsibility.
In fact, the responsibility to properly spend Krishna's resources is greater than the responsibility to generate them.
If resources are used carefully and responsibly in Krishna's service, Krishna will continue to provide more. When He sees that a devotee responsibly handles the power already entrusted to him, He gradually entrusts him with even greater responsibility.
Therefore, devotees must always remain spiritually sensitive, humble, and careful while handling Krishna's mission, resources, and authority.
