Now, when you ask whether one should simply keep reading and reading — yes, reading should certainly be continued, but it must be done attentively, carefully, and with proper focus.
It should not be that while reading you are simultaneously listening to songs, watching television, or checking YouTube shorts on your mobile phone. Reading Bhagavatam is a devotional activity, and devotional activities should be performed exclusively and attentively.
Just as when chanting japa one should exclusively chant and hear, similarly while reading Bhagavatam one should exclusively focus on that reading. Therefore, select a proper time when there will be minimum distractions and you can give your full attention without disturbance.
For example, even if you read only fifteen minutes daily, choose a time when you can peacefully and fully concentrate for those fifteen minutes without interruption.
In the beginning, it is advisable to read nicely in sequence — the Sanskrit shloka, word-for-word meaning, translation, and purport. After completing one reading in this way, you can later return for deeper study.
Study requires guidance. For example, there are lectures by Srila Prabhupada and classes given by senior devotees where a particular shloka is explained in greater detail than what may be immediately understood from reading the purport alone. Sometimes certain statements in the purport may not be easy to understand simply by reading, so they can be clarified through classes, discussions, or by asking questions from senior practicing devotees who have studied the scriptures carefully.
That is called study.
But in the beginning, whatever you can sincerely understand through attentive reading is already very beneficial. The important point is: while reading, avoid distractions. Do not read with divided or half attention.
