Yes, they are related.
A pure devotee who is completely absorbed in the service of the Lord gradually becomes liberated from bodily identification. This liberation is often compared to a dried coconut inside its shell. Although the coconut remains within the shell, it has become detached from it.
Similarly, a devotee absorbed in devotional service gradually becomes detached from bodily consciousness. In fact, as soon as one becomes genuinely absorbed in the Lord's service, one is situated on the liberated platform.
However, whenever we stop engaging in service and become idle, māyā immediately knocks at the door:
"Are you free? Are you free?"
And when we become free from service, māyā says:
"I have been waiting for you."
Then we again begin to identify ourselves as the enjoyer, the controller, the doer. Various false egoistic feelings arise, and that leads only to misery.
