When a desire becomes very deep, it is called ambition. When there is a strong aspiration and determination behind a desire, that desire develops into ambition.

Desire and ambition are related, but they differ in intensity. A desire can be mild or strong. When a desire becomes particularly intense, focused, and persistent, we call it ambition.

In that sense, ambition can be understood as the superlative form of desire—a desire that has gained significant strength, conviction, and commitment.
